Jon Howell, Managing Director, AviaDev, met with Raphael Kuuchi, Vice President – Africa, IATA onsite in Kigali, during AviaDev Africa conference.

Amongst other things, they discussed the linkage between the hotel investment community and the aviation community.

Raphael explains:

Aviation has more to do than just moving people. It impacts all economic sectors of all countries. But, African governments don’t see aviation that way. They think it is just another means of transport tailored for the rich”

In terms of liberalisation of the African skies, the plan is to have a single African sky by June 2017. The aim is to have an approved and endorsed framework for this by the end of October 2016 in readiness for next June’s implementation.

Raphael offers his thoughts on the secrets behind Rwanda’s success and being the shining light of African aviation.
